AI is rapidly transforming education by enabling personalized learning, automating administrative tasks, and providing intelligent feedback—helping students progress at their own pace and giving teachers more time to focus on creativity and critical thinking. As AI becomes more integrated into daily life and future careers, equipping students and educators with the skills to use AI ethically and effectively ensures they are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. Early exposure to responsible AI use empowers learners to become thoughtful creators, not just consumers, of new technologies.

Inquiry-based learning (IBL) encourages students to ask meaningful questions, engage in real-world problem solving, and reflect deeply on their learning, making it less likely for them to misuse AI as a shortcut or tool for cheating. Research shows that while concerns about AI-enabled cheating are widespread, actual rates of academic dishonesty have not increased significantly since the introduction of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, suggesting that the root causes of cheating are more about student engagement and motivation than technology access. By integrating AI into inquiry-based projects and collaborative assignments, we help students use technology to explore, analyze, and create, fostering genuine understanding, critical thinking, and ethical use of AI.
